Who we are
Letter from the Non-Editor
I've been studying the internet for almost 30 years. It was meant to bring us together. Instead, I've watched it pull us apart.
The day The Advocate stopped landing on our doorsteps was a big moment for me. I checked it for the sport. Mum checked it for the births and deaths. Everyone thumbed through it for their own reason. That information was ours. It belonged to the community.
Now it's scattered across hundreds of websites. Mums spend hours each morning just working out where their kids need to be. That's not progress. That's double handling.
So when I built my digital marketing agency, I set myself a challenge: use what big tech taught me to put the unity back into community. One hub you come back to every morning, with everything you need to know about where you live.
Why am I confident it'll work? Because I'm giving you information. It's the "I" in IT, and it's what every business, family and community runs on.
Yes, I source the internet
Everything here comes from somewhere else, and every item names its source and links back to it. I'm doing this in good faith: I'm not making money from anyone's hard work, just making it easier for the community to find. Every source gets more eyeballs, not fewer.
If you're a source and you'd rather not be here, tell me and it comes down straight away. I'll simply note that you've asked not to be sourced, so the community knows where to look.
No gatekeeper. The gatekeeper is you.
This is a community-powered hub. You vote, you suggest, you have your say, and what comes up is shaped by how you use it, not by an editor deciding what you should see. That's why I'm the Non-Editor.
What it costs you
I won't charge you for information. Anything you could find online yourself is free here, always. If something I build saves you enough time that you want to pay for it, great. If not, that's fine too.
I won't sell advertising on this site. A small media company needs around 15,000 readers to start selling ads. I believe we'll get there. When we do, this site still won't carry them.
So what's in it for me? Trust. I'm a marketer, and I'm doing it the old-fashioned way. If you find this useful, you might click the Maverick Digital logo at the bottom and see what I do for businesses. No lead forms. No tricks. Just earning it.
You don't need code anymore
While building my first site, testing a few things, it dawned on me: I didn't need code anymore. I've never been a coder. Maybe I could bolt together a bit of HTML. But suddenly, the only thing standing between me and my ideas was my own drive to make them happen.
That's what AI has made possible. We can debate it till the cows come home, but at the end of the day it's a tool. A tool that can help you. I want to show this community how to use it, so nobody gets bamboozled by big tech.
This is AI used for good. I hope it gives you a little time back each morning, and maybe sparks an idea or two of your own.
Community. Information. Together again.
